Presenter:
Lauren Grossbach, MA, LMFT
Lauren currently serves as Vice President and Treasurer on the NJAMFT Board. Lauren has been a part of the NJAMFT board since 2017. As a group practice owner in Middlesex County, NJ, she is passionate about staying up-to-date on the latest regulations, policies, and ethical standards. This is her second year running NJAMFT's Ethics Workshop, which aims to guide NJ MFTs in providing ethical therapeutic services. She looks forward to providing you with the most updated information, as well as having an engaging conversation about the ethical issues that we face today.

Abstract & Workshop Overview:
This workshop discusses the importance of having a code of ethics for our field - a code of conduct that is expected and required of all practicing MFTs. We will also discuss how to  practice ethically in times of change. Participants will have the chance to evaluate their own ethical beliefs and discuss how to take a more ethical approach to care.

Topics covered will include, but are not limited to: providing ethical telehealth services, telesupervision, staying HIPAA compliant in a virtual world (and across state lines), compact vs. licensure portability, and some updated discussions on Medicare.

Cancellation/No Show Policy: Please be aware that refunds and exchanges are not available. However, we do offer the option to apply 50% of the event cost as credit toward a future NJAMFT training. To qualify for this credit, you must inform the NJAMFT Treasurer at njamfttreasurer@gmail.com before the event's commencement if you need to cancel or will not be attending. Working with Consensually Non-monogamous Clients in Relational Therapy

  • NJ Association for Marriage and Family Therapy - ZOOM (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Our NJAMFT DEIJ Committee will be hosting a virtual Zoom workshop on February 23, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.

Presented by:  Caitlyn Burns, PhD LMFT

The number of relational therapy clients practicing consensual non-monogamy (CNM) is increasing. Therefore, it is essential for relational therapists to increase their knowledge and understanding of CNM, as well as examine personal biases that may create challenges to providing affirming, inclusive, and ethical care when working with these clients. The purpose of this presentation is to increase general understanding of what consensual non-mongamy is (including common terms and language), as well as to provide relational therapists with tips and strategies for practicing more inclusive and affirming care when working with CNM clients.

One important factor to provide ethical care is to examine personal beliefs and biases, which can negatively impact practice and the therapeutic relationship. Dr. Burns will discuss mono-normativity and mono-normative bias, which stem from dominant discourses about relationships. Using research results from her dissertation on this topic, Dr. Burns will demonstrate how mono-normative bias can show up in relational therapy and how this can be harmful to ethical therapy and the therapeutic relationship.

Using both research and clinical experience, Dr. Burns will provide some quick tips and strategies for providing more inclusive and affirming care when working with CNM clients. Some of these strategies will pull from existing models or theories and others will be new ideas uniquely rooted in CNM culture and thinking.

At the end of this workshop, you will have a greater understanding of what CNM is and what mono-normative bias is and why it is dangerous. You will also experience the reframing of relationships in a more CNM-inclusive lens, which in turn will provide you with affirming strategies for working with CNM clients. Dr. Burns will also provide additional resources and connect you with other means of support and methods of learning more about working with CNM clients.

Pathways to Licensure 2024

  • NJ Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This virtual workshop will be offered on:

Friday, January 12th, 2022, 9:30pm-12:30pm (click HERE to register)

The Pathway to Licensure 2024 workshop has been formulated in response to numerous grievances expressed by students, both current and graduates, who have encountered persistent challenges over the years. These challenges primarily revolve around a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding the process of obtaining their LAMFT (Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist) and the necessary groundwork essential for full licensure.

Students consistently report struggles stemming from limited knowledge of the mechanics involved in achieving their LAMFT and the preparations required for eventual full licensure. This workshop has been specifically crafted to provide guidance and support to students, graduates, and supervisors, aiding them in creating a clear and actionable roadmap towards licensure.

Learning objectives for the workshop include:

  • Associate License (LAMFT)

  • LAMFT holders' responsibilities

  • Licensure requirements

  • Breakdown of licensure hours

  • Exam Information including preparation and resources

  • Information regarding legislation and how it impacts our profession

Presenters: Jaime L. Gilmore, LMFT & Rhoda Ondov, LMFT

Fees:

$20 Members

$25 Non-members
